Every so often, we’ll depart from the regular weekly hack night format to provide you a speaker! Code for Miami’s very own Adrian Cardenas will give a beginners guide to the command line.
the first thing that Apple’s hackers had done when they’d got the MacOS up and running-probably even before they’d gotten it up and running-was to re-create the Unix interface, so that they would be able to get some useful work done

W3Techs realeased a study earlier this year that more than 60% of all webservers on the internet are running a Unix or Unix-like operating System. For the most popular webhosts, this usually means Ubuntu, Debian, or CentOS/RHEL. While it is true that most webhost will give you access to a dashboard like cPanel or Plesk, when things start to go wrong, you will be able to glean the most information from command line uitilities than from the dashboards. The command line is often faster and more flexible than a graphical interface and knowing your way around, even at a basic level, can lead to an improved work flow.
