The Miami Chapter of the Duke Global Entrepreneurship is pleased to host Eric Toone who is the head of Duke’s Innovation and Entrepreneurship Initiative in Durham, North Carolina. Dr. Toone is a Duke University Chemist and Professor who has also served as the deputy Department of Energy’s Advanced Research Projects Agency-Engergy. This agency of the government is charged with funding and developing advanced energy technologies. As head of the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Initiative Toone has built the initiative around four foundational axes: Education, research, translation and social entrepreneurship. The initiative was also the recipient of $15 million from university trustee David Rubenstein which Toone has said “makes it possible for us to assemble an entire suite of capabilities and people to advance our efforts.” In his capacity as head of the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Initiative at Duke, Toone has played a key role in expanding the resources and capacities of the University in its attempt to incubate and support Duke Entrepreneurs and Innovators.
