Ethical Hacking

November 12 @ 7:00 pm 9:00 pm

| Free

Ethical Hacking is the name of FIU’s most popular cybersecurity course. The class teaches participants how to expose vulnerabilities in computer systems without actually breaking in.

This meetup, led by FIU Professor Alexander Pons, will give an overview of the fast-growing and dynamic field of ethical hacking — a perfect fit for Hacks/Hackers Miami since journalist-technologists are ethical hackers at heart. “In order to protect, you need to know how to compromise,” Pons says. “When you want to protect your home, you don’t look for a police officer. You look for a crook who knows how to get in and build your defenses around that.”

The event will be held at 7 pm in Room 3278 in the Engineering Center building at the corner of Flagler Street and 107th Avenue. Note that this is a few blocks north of the main FIU University Park campus. There is free parking in front of the building.

AGENDA:

7 p.m. – Meet and Greet with FIU cybersecurity professors and students

7:30 p.m. – FIU Professor Alex Pons discusses Ethical Hacking and penetration testing leading to expose how systems could be compromised (malware, phishing, etc.).

8:30 p.m. – Q&A
