Intro to SQL

March 16 @ 6:30 pm 9:00 pm

| $90

This class is a 4-day series running on every Monday on March 16, 23, 30 and April 6th from 6:30pm to 9:00pm each day. The cost covers all 4 nights.
Big data is sexy right now. SQL is like the hipster of data. It was cool before people were into data. Most large companies, and many small ones, store all the valuable information about their companies in databases, and SQL is the language to get at that data and find out what you want about your customers, your products, and your entire business. SQL is a declarative language, which means it reads a lot like English, and is easy to get started with.

This class will teach you how to query databases, create them, and edit them, to get the information you need without waiting for developers or business analysts. SQL power to the people.

You’ll learn:

• What’s a Database? What’s SQL?

• Select statement

• Grouping by statements

• Clauses and joins

• Creating, deleting, and updating a table

• Super-awesome bonus round: subqueries

No prior programming skills necessary, since SQL is all fun and declaratory like that.

Tech Requirements for this class:

• Your laptop.

• A modern browser with either Chrome and the “Web Developer” extension or Firefox and Firebug installed.

• A text editor. We recommend Sublime Text 2 (It’s free and available for both Mac and PC).

About Girl Develop It Miami:

We aim to grow and empower the female tech community of Miami-Dade and Broward Counties. Do not miss this opportunity to meet other women interested in technology and local developers.

At Girl Develop It Miami, we aim to inspire women to see the greatness within them and mentor them as they start a career or transition into a career in computer science, and create a better life for themselves.

Girl Develop It (GDI) launched in 2010 with a simple concept; make software development accessible and affordable to all women in New York City with little to no development or training experience. GDI now has 36 chapters and is an international 501c3 non-profit organization. The massive growth is projected to help women throughout the globe enhance their skill sets, illuminate their passions or hobbies to make beautiful code and websites, and spread the principles of effective software development.
